This kit replaces the coil springs in the rear of all IRS Commodores VT to VZ.

Here are some reasons why people replace coils with bags in their commodores…

  • Bags are softer than coils. If they were any softer it would sit lower so safe to say as soft as possible at a given height.
  • Carry heavy loads – like car trailers or caravans. Just add more air until the car sits level.
  • Lower the car. Control how low you want to go but letting air out and then add air to lift it to clear driveways, etc.

This kit in it’s standard form lowers the car as low as you can go without compromising the integrity of the car. The top mount sits over the top bump stop. To sit a bit lower than bump stops it does involve cutting off the lower bump stop from the lower control arms and bolts to the lower spring mounts using holes that already exist.

We visited 2 local wreckers and both had complete lanes of commodores all with lower control arms. We feel that the lower control arms are very easy to buy so if for what ever reason you need to fit coils again just grab another set of second hand lower control arms from the wreckers for $50 like we did. But note the top bump stops are a part of the car so we dont cut those off. If you wanted to sit even lower then you could cut off the top bump stops and reach out to us so we can configure your kit with bolt in top mounts as well as bolt in bottom mounts.

You can compare the measurements here to the compressed and extended lengths of the rear coil springs in your car right now. Fully compressed this kit is 15cm. Fully extended this kit is 30cm.

This kit comes with all the bolts needed, air lines and valves to manually pump up and deflate your bags. You can elect to expand on this kit and have an on board air compressor and remote control for up and down inflation from inside the car. We also offer tanks so when you inflate it can be immediate.

The 2 most common questions answered –

  1. sorry we dont do any fronts as yet. We used to but the struts leaked so much it was not worth the headaches.
  2. sorry we dont yet do VE – those have struts in the rear as well as the front and like in 1 above – the struts for VE leak.

By selecting an “In-Cab Kit”, you will also be supplied with all the gear required to control the air in your bags from the inside of your vehicle. You can option for us to supply a compressor for you too if you do not already have one installed. Our small single-head compressor is suited to inflating air bags, whilst our large twin-head compressor is also capable of inflating tyres.

Pair your large in-cab kit with one of our air tanks if you wish to increase the capacity of your onboard air system. Running a tank means the compressor can run in advance and be ready to pump tyres faster. There is no huge gain in pumping air bags with a tank except they inflate super fast. Please note that the small compressor is not suited to pumping tyres or large tanks, that’s a job for our larger compressor.

Option your kit with our Tyre Inflation Kit to suit your In-Cab Kit. Included in this is an tyre inflation hose with tyre chuck, air line to connect it to the compressor and a selection fo fittings. Additionally, we can also option a Tank Fitting Kit which includes a pressure relief valve to prevent over-pressuring the tank, a water drain valve, a nitto fitting and other connections.
