This is our AAA Coil Replacement kit – also referred to as a coil delete kit. Remove the coil springs and fit these bags.
Advantage #1 – The bags can carry significantly more weight than coils and not sag. Just keep adding air until the ride height is right no matter how heavy the load is. These are a truck bag so well and truly capable of the biggest caravans.
Advantage #2 – They are softer than coils. When not carrying a load only have as much as needed to maintain your preferred ride height and that will be softer than a factory coil. Any softer and it will sit lower. Any harder and it will sit higher so it has to be the softest achievable for your given height – you can’t do that with coils. When people put air bags inserts inside coils they also find they have to get a heavier coil and then when they are unloaded they have to accommodate the added stiffness of that heavier coil. None of that with this kit.
The rubber in these bags is heavier than the rubber in the sidewalls of your tyres. Unlike the tyres the bags are not on the ground so much less likely to get damaged. In fact you are more likely to break a coil spring than harm a bag. But in that most unlikely event it’s good to know you can repair a puncture in a bag with a tyre repair string, same as you would fix a hole in a tyre.
As these replace the coil spring using the original coil spring mounts there is no additional load on any other sections of your chassis so you can rule out the possibility of harming the chassis.
There is no drilling, cutting or welding – this is just a straight forward bolt in kit. Workshops can quote similar times to fit these as they would for swapping out coils. Maybe add a half hour to run the air lines.
This is a manual kit – Comes with bags, top and bottom mounts, bolts, air lines and schrader (tyre) valves. There is 1 valve per bag – we dont join them and share 1 valve as that would facilitate air transfer from one side to the other and the car would lean around corners. But you could put in a connecting air line with a tap so you get better flex off road.
Kit includes:
- 2x Heavy duty airbags.
- 2x Top and bottom brackets.
- Bolts, hardware, airlines and valves.
Additional upgrade options –
At AAA we have an auto ride height control system for this vehicle. No matter the weight the vehicle will always sit at the same height. If empty, fully loaded, van on or van off it makes no difference to your ride height – how cool is that? And again it will be the softest achieveble ride for the given load at your set height. That kit comprises a compressor, a tank and again more truck stuff with mechanical control valves. Nothing electronic except for the compressor so it’s functional, reliable and repairable out in the bush. Because there is no electricals there is nothing to be done inside the car – no switches or gauges as the system is totally automated. This makes fitting much faster and more cost effective. We use the ARB twin compressor with this kit as it is proven and popular and yes if you already have one we can take that off the price. In fact that is an option when you check out.
We run an air tank to supply air to the the bags whenever the system detects the need for more. The compressor only comes on by itself to top the tank up occasionally. A smaller tank means the compressor runs for a shorter time and the tank is filled faster. The engineers want to make sure this is a fast process so the system is fully functional by the time you back out onto the road. A large tank will take a lot longer and that’s why our auto level kit comes with a small tank. If you have a large tank already (they are great for tyres) then you are best to still get our small tank and fit a line with a tap between them so you can shut off the large tank when daily driving and just open it when going off road and likely to pump up tyres. As such to simplify the decision process taking out the small tank is not an option but at least you have the option to take out the compressor.
With the automated ride height control we can arrange GVM upgrades. Our engineer has been commissioned to register our design and testing for national acceptance so your own local engineer in any state will be able to use this for issuing you with your GVM upgrade.
